Ballon d'Or favourite Vinicius Junior the star of Champions League Team of the Week
With matchday three of the new-look UEFA Champions League now complete, we’ve taken a look back at the standout performers in our Team of the Week.
Represented in our XI are Juventus, Inter, Monaco, Stuttgart, Girona, Manchester City, Feyenoord and Real Madrid.
Mattia Perin (Juventus) - 9.14
Despite his side ultimately falling to a 1-0 defeat, Juventus goalkeeper Mattia Perin was crucial in ensuring the Old Lady were not on the wrong side of a larger deficit. The 31-year-old made a total of nine saves against Stuttgart, including one that denied Enzo Millot from the penalty spot on 86 minutes.
Denzel Dumfries (Inter) - 8.58
Inter wing-back Denzel Dumfries makes our XI following a Player of the Match display in Wednesday’s late win against Young Boys. The Dutchman made two key passes, three successful dribbles, five tackles, two blocks, three clearances, and won the penalty that Marcus Thuram would convert into a 93rd-minute winner.
Wilfried Singo (Monaco) - 8.29
Monaco were one of three sides to put five goals past their opponents on matchday three, and defender Wilfried Singo was unexpectedly involved in two of them. The Ivorian found the net with a remarkable long-range effort, while he also provided an assist from his only key pass of the evening, to earn a WhoScored rating of 8.29.
Jeff Chabot (Stuttgart) - 7.93
After five matches without a win across all competitions, Stuttgart brought their run to an end in the best possible fashion, inflicting Juventus’ first defeat of the season on Tuesday evening. Key to ensuring the visitors left with a clean sheet and all three points was defender Jeff Chabot, who won all four of the duels he contested, made eight clearances, three interceptions and two tackles, for a WhoScored rating of 7.93.
Miguel Gutierrez (Girona) - 9.06
After defeat in their two opening matches, Girona picked up their first Champions League victory against Slovan Bratislava on Tuesday, with wing-back Miguel Gutierrez the star for the hosts. The 23-year-old put his side ahead shortly before half-time, finding the net with one of two attempts on goal, while he also made four key passes, four successful dribbles, three tackles and three ball recoveries. A fine all-round showing.

Savinho (Manchester City) - 8.67
Manchester City winger Savinho recorded his first goal involvement in the Champions League during the 5-0 win over Sparta Prague on Wednesday, an assist for a simply outrageous Erling Haaland finish. In all, the 20-year-old made five key passes, four successful dribbles and eight touches in the opposition box.
Antoni Milambo (Feyenoord) - 8.90
Given their 4-0 victory over Atletico Madrid earlier this month, it came as a surprise to see Benfica beaten comfortably on home soil by Feyenoord - but the Dutch side were worthy victors, and took all three points largely thanks to an exceptional display by teenage attacker Antoni Milambo. The 19-year-old scored twice at the Estadio do Luz, while he also made two key passes and four successful dribbles.
Phil Foden (Manchester City) - 8.66
Manchester City star Phil Foden bagged his second goal in as many Champions League games when he put the hosts 1-0 up inside three minutes on Wednesday evening. Foden also made two key passes, two successful dribbles, two tackles and three ball recoveries, to register a WhoScored rating of 8.66.
Vinicius Junior (Real Madrid) - 10.0
With a perfect 10.0 WhoScored rating, Real Madrid’s hat-trick hero Vinicius Junior is our Champions League Player of the Week. The 24-year-old notched his first treble in the competition, helping the defending champions complete a classic second-half comeback victory over Borussia Dortmund. Vinicius’ performance rating keeps Brazilian national team-mate Raphinha - who also netted a hat-trick - out of our XI.
Erling Haaland (Manchester City) - 9.45
Erling Haaland may be without a goal in three straight Premier League matches, but the Manchester City hitman is certainly not having trouble finding the net on the European stage. The 24-year-old brought his all-time tally in the competition to 44 - reached in just 42 games - with a brace against Sparta Prague on Wednesday evening.
Breel Embolo (Monaco) - 9.12
27-year-old forward Breel Embolo rounds off our Team of the Week, having been involved in two of Monaco’s five goals against Crvena Zvezda on Tuesday night. Embolo found the net in first-half stoppage time to put the hosts back in front at 2-1, before providing the assist for Takumi Minamino to add a fourth on 70 minutes.
