Yahoo! Fantasy Football: Liverpool star closes in on record breaking season

The FA Cup quarter-finals ensured there were only four Premier League fixtures that went ahead on Saturday but that didn’t water down the entertainment on show. As predicted by the WhoScored Expert on Thursday, Liverpool entered the international break with a bang.

Goalkeeper - WAYNE HENNESSEY (CRYSTAL PALACE)

Crystal Palace moved out of the bottom three after winning away to relegation rivals Huddersfield 2-0 on Saturday.

Roy Hodgson’s side ended a run of seven matches without a win in the process to enter the international break with a bit more optimism.

Wayne Hennessey kept his first clean sheet on the road since the end of November to ensure Palace moved two points clear of the drop zone, denying Huddersfield on two occasions.

Defender - JAMES TOMKINS (CRYSTAL PALACE)

James Tomkins finished gameweek 31 in the Premier League as the highest points scoring defender on Yahoo! Fantasy Football after contributing at both ends of the pitch in Crystal Palace’s rare away league win.

The former West Ham defender opened the scoring for the Eagles midway through the first half and carried out his defensive work diligently to ensure all three points and a clean sheet for Roy Hodgson’s side.

Tomkins won five aerial duels, completed two tackles and made one interception on his way to scoring 20.8 points on Yahoo! Fantasy Football.

Defender - CHARLIE DANIELS (BOURNEMOUTH)

Bournemouth more than likely put the final nail in Alan Pardew’s coffin at West Brom after coming from behind to beat the Baggies 2-1 on Saturday.

Charlie Daniels is usually a regular point scorer in fantasy football but his performances have dipped significantly this season.

The 31-year-old provided an assist for Bournemouth’s equaliser on Saturday, which was just his second of the season and first since September.

Defender - ANDREW ROBERTSON (LIVERPOOL)

Andrew Robertson continues to grow from strength-to-strength at Liverpool and the Scotland international played another important role in the Reds’ latest win.

Jurgen Klopp’s side bounced back from their 2-1 defeat to Manchester United to thrash Watford 5-0 on Saturday evening.

Robertson provided an assist in the rout of Watford and is quietly making a claim to be one of the best left backs in the Premier League.

Midfielder - JORDON IBE (BOURNEMOUTH)

The second of three Bournemouth players in the highest scoring Yahoo! Fantasy Football XI is Jordon Ibe.

The 22-year-old’s performances have generally been much better this season and he was rewarded with his second league goal of the season on Saturday.

Ibe not only had four shots, but also created two goalscoring opportunities for his Bournemouth teammates and completed three tackles - his best return in a Premier League match this season.

Midfielder - LUKA MILIVOJEVIC (CRYSTAL PALACE)

The second Crystal Palace to feature is midfielder Luka Milivojevic. The 26-year-old has proved a shrewd signing for the Eagles since joining over 12 months ago, for his penalty spot exploits alone.

Of Milivojevic’s eight league goals this season, six have now come from the penalty spot. In fact, only Lazio striker Ciro Immobile has scored more penalties than Milivojevic in Europe’s top five leagues this season.

Not only did Milivojevic secure all three points for the Eagles, the Serbian made six tackles, two interceptions and won five aerial duels.

Midfielder - ERIC MAXIM CHOUPO-MOTING (STOKE)

It was a bitterly disappointing Saturday afternoon for Stoke after Charlie Adam’s first half red card scuppered their chances of getting a positive result at home to Everton.

A 2-1 defeat means Stoke are now three points adrift of safety, but there was at least good news for Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who we tipped prior to the weekend’s action.

The 28-year-old was only on the pitch was seven minutes but still raked up 10.5 points on Yahoo! Fantasy Football after scoring his first goal since December.

Midfielder - JUNIOR STANISLAS (BOURNEMOUTH)

It’s a shame that Bournemouth haven’t had Junior Stanislas available more often because he has the quality to hurt opponents, as he has shown this calendar year.

Stanislas finished as the WhoScored Man of the Match in Bournemouth’s 2-1 win over West Brom after scoring the winner right at the death.

The 28-year-old has now scored in successive appearances for Bournemouth and has played a direct hand in five goals in last eight appearances (four goals, one assist).

Utility - MOHAMED SALAH (LIVERPOOL)

Mohamed Salah’s remarkable season continued at the weekend after netting four goals in Liverpool’s 5-0 win over Watford.

The Egypt international, who also set up the other goal on Saturday, scored 48.9 points on Yahoo! Fantasy Football and is now three goals clear in the race to finish as the top scorer in Europe’s top five leagues.

Not only that, but Salah only needs four more goals from Liverpool’s remaining seven matches to set a new record for the amount of goals in a Premier League season.

Considering he has only failed to score in successive league appearances this season, it seems a foregone conclusion this will be a record-breaking campaign for the 25-year-old.

Forward - ROBERTO FIRMINO (LIVERPOOL)

Mohamad Salah rightly stole all the headlines on Saturday but it was also a significant day for Roberto Firmino. The 26-year-old scored his 14th league goal of the season, equalling Robinho’s record for the most goals scored by a Brazilian in a Premier League campaign.

Firmino scored 18.7 points on Yahoo! Fantasy Football after making two tackles and one interception on top of his four shots on goal. The defensive side to Firmino’s game does not come as a surprise, as this is what seperates him from your typical No.9s.

In fact, only Salomon Rondon (22) has won possession in the attacking third more times than Firmino (21) of all strikers in the Premier League this season.

Forward - CENK TOSUN (EVERTON)

After a slow start to life in England, Cenk Tosun finally looks to be settling at Everton following his £27m move from Besiktas in January.

Tosun has now scored in three consecutive appearances for the Toffees after netting both goals in Everton’s 2-1 win over Stoke on Saturday.

The 26-year-old is averaging a Premier League goal every 106 minutes of action, which is all the more impressive when you consider it took him five appearances to open his account.
