Bundesliga Best XI: Bayern Munich trio in team of the month
Here we reveal the best rated XI from the month of April in the Bundesliga and run through the top five WhoScored rated players from within it.
5. Jean-Paul Boetius (Mainz) - 7.91 rating
Mainz creator Jean-Paul Boetius made a sensational start to April, garnering a perfect WhoScored 10 rating in their opening match. Boetius scored once and provided two assists in their 5-0 demolition of Freiburg and went on to provide another assist in their 3-1 triumph at home to Fortuna Duesseldorf two games later. The 25-year-old is one of just two players that garnered a WhoScored 10 rating in a Bundesliga match last month.
4. Thiago Alcantara (Bayern Munich) - 7.97 rating
Thiago Alcantara registered two assists in the month of April and was typically class in and out of possession, as Bayern Munich close in on another league title. The Spaniard ranked in the top five for passes completed in the Bundesliga last month (305) and won possession in the middle third at least five more times than any other player (30). Not only that, but of players to have attempted at least five dribbles in the Bundesliga in April, only one player had a better success rate than Thiago (85.7%).
3. Serge Gnabry (Bayern Munich) - 8.02 rating
Arsenal fans must wonder what could have been had they managed to keep hold of Serge Gnabry. The 23-year-old couldn’t even get into the team at West Brom a few years ago and now he is a regular for Bayern. Gnabry played a direct hand in five goals in four league games last month, which included scoring and assisting in games against Borussia Dortmund and Fortuna Duesseldorf.
2. Ishak Belfodil (Hoffenheim) - 8.27 rating
Ishak Belfodil was in red hot form last month, picking up two WhoScored Man of the Match awards in four league appearances. The 27-year-old played a direct hand in six goals in that time, including a hat-trick at Augsburg at the start of the month. Belfodil has now played a direct hand in 18 league goals this season and 33.3% of them came in April.
1. William (Wolfsburg) - 8.31 rating
William beats Ishak Beldofil to our WhoScored Player of the Month award for April. The 24-year-old was the WhoScored Man of the Match award in a 3-1 win over Hannover in his first appearance last month and closed April by scoring and assisting in a 4-1 triumph away to Hoffenheim. The versatile full-back had only scored one goal all season prior to last weekend’s triumph against Hoffenheim and he will now hope to feature prominently in their remaining matches.
