Tottenham close to wrapping up deal for Werner

Tottenham are set to complete a deal for Timo Werner this week following positive talks between both player and club, reports the Standard.

Werner was heavily linked with a move to Spurs over the weekend in a deal that caught a number of fans off guard.

Talks between the two parties have progressed well, with Werner convinced to join the north London side by head coach Ange Postecoglou.

Werner will initially join on a six-month loan deal and Spurs will have the option to make the move permanent at the end of the season, with the Standard suggesting the fee will be between £15m and £20m.

The 27-year-old has struggled for regular game time this season having dropped behind Lois Openda, Yussuf Poulsen and Benjamin Sesko in the pecking order at RB Leipzig.

While a centre-back is the priority for Spurs this month, the north London side need reinforcements in attack with Son Heung-Min currently on international duty for the Asian Cup and Manor Solomon and Ivan Perisic currently sidelined due to injury.

Manchester United were credited with an interest in the Germany international, who could make his debut against Erik ten Hag's side when the two meet this weekend.
