Chelsea will demand world record fee for striker

Chelsea have slapped a world record £127m asking price on striker Diego Costa, reports the Daily Star on Sunday.

The Spain international was strongly linked with a move to the Chinese Super League last month, though any rumours were quickly put to bed by the player.

Tianjin Quanjian are prepared to make an offer for Costa, who on Saturday rattled in his 16th Premier League goal of the season as Chelsea secured a 3-1 win over Swansea, with the Chinese Super League side readying a move that would eclipse Paul Pogba’s move to Manchester United last summer.

Chelsea have told the Far East outfit they would be prepared to do business in the summer, with the Blues keen to retain Costa’s services in their quest to secure the Premier League title.

However, with the transfer window open until Tuesday in China, Tianjin Quanjian could look to push the deal over the line in the coming days, which would see Costa link up with former Chelsea teammate Alexandre Pato.

Costa, 28, remains confident of winning the Premier League’s golden boot, with his 16 league goals behind only Alexis Sanchez and Romelu Lukaku (both 17) in the scoring charts.
