Declan Rice signs new long-term West Ham deal

Declan Rice has put pen to paper on a new six-year deal running until the summer of 2024, the club announced on Friday evening.

The Hammers have been trying to nail down Rice’s long-term future since the start of last season and at one point it looked like they would have to cash in next summer.

Rice’s previous deal was due to expire in the summer of 2020 and Manchester United have previously been linked with the 19-year-old.

Rice, who can play at centre-back, has emerged as an integral player for West Ham under Manuel Pellegrini this season and has finally pledged his future to the club.

“I’m absolutely delighted to have got the contract done, signed and to commit my future to the club until 2024,” he told the club’s official website. “I’m absolutely ecstatic.

“Without a doubt, the plan was always to stay at West Ham. I’ve had the support from the fans, the players and from the manager and now, to get it done and commit myself to this club is a very special moment and I’m over the moon.

“I’ve now played 50 games for the first team and I’m progressing week-in, week-out, learning from a top manager and top players. I’m still young, so to put more years on my contract and keep developing here is the best thing for me to do now.”

West Ham have also announced they have an option to extend Rice’s stay by a further 12 months, which effectively keeps the teenager at the London Stadium until 2025.

Of the 16 teenagers that have appeared in the Premier League this season, Rice has racked up the most minutes on the pitch (1,396).
