Manchester United plot January move for unsettled Premier League star

Manchester United could rekindle their interest in Tottenham creator Christian Eriksen in January, claims The Sun.

Eriksen will only have six months remaining on his current Tottenham deal at the start of next year and could leave the north London outfit for free next summer.

Tottenham failed to offload Eriksen over the summer despite interest from Atletico Madrid, Real Madrid and United.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was willing to sanction a move for Eriksen in the last week of the summer transfer window but opted against it after a conversation with the midfielder.

The United boss only wants to sign players desperate to play for United and got the sense Eriksen was holding out for a move to Spain and ended the club's interest.

It was thought Madrid would turn to Eriksen after conceding defeat in pursuit of United star Paul Pogba but nothing materialised on Monday’s deadline for European clubs.

Despite reservations about Eriksen’s desire to join United, it has now emerged Solskjaer could rekindle his interest when the transfer window re-opens in January with a cut-price offer.

United’s short-comings have been laid bare in their opening four league games after managing just one win in that time.

The Red Devils opted against signing a new midfielder despite losing both Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini this year and they struggle to break teams down that defend with a low block.

Neither Marcus Rashford nor Anthony Martial are clinical enough in front of goal and United will need to create more chances in order kill teams off.

Eriksen is no longer a guaranteed starter for Tottenham due to fact his future is up in the air, which is reflected by the fact he has only started two of the club’s first four league matches this season.

The 27-year-old garnered a WhoScored rating above 7.00 for the first time this season in Sunday’s North London derby draw with Arsenal after bagging his first goal of the campaign.
