Leicester midfielder first to 50 interceptions for the season

Leicester midfielder N’Golo Kante became the first player to complete 50 interceptions in the Premier League over the weekend.

The Foxes went top of the table with a 3-0 win over Newcastle on Saturday, in which Jamie Vardy equalled Ruud van Nistelrooy’s Premier League record of scoring in 10 consecutive matches.

However, there was also a milestone for summer signing Kante, who completed seven interceptions to take his total for the season beyond 50.

The former Caen midfielder has now made at least nine more interceptions than any other player in the Premier League and his performances have flown relatively under the radar in Leicester’s rip-roaring start to the campaign.
