What's at stake?

Italy have already booked their place in the next round of Euro 2020, and Wales are well placed to join them after their 2-0 win over Turkey on Wednesday evening. The Azzurri top Group A having secured routine 3-0 victories over Turkey and Switzerland and are expected to progress to the last-16 as group winners. They haven't conceded since Donny van de Beek hit the back of the net for the Netherlands in October 2020 10 games ago, a run of 964 minutes of action. Wales may not be guaranteed a spot, but with four points to their name, expect them to join Italy in the next round regardless of tonight's results.

Team News

Roberto Mancini has confirmed that Marco Verratti will start for Italy tonight as the Azzurri boss looks to rotate given they have qualified for the last-16. Giorgio Chiellini is ruled out with a hamstring issue sustained against Switzerland, so expect Francesco Acerbi to start alongside Leonardo Bonucci, while Lorenzo Pellegrini is also sidelined. Federico Chiesa was set to start in Rome, but has reportedly picked up a knock in training so may miss out.

Wales boss Rob Page has no injury or suspension concerns for this evening's game in Italy, and should name the same XI for the third game running in Rome. Ethan Ampadu has featured from the bench twice so far and will hope for a start in Italy, but for Page; if it isn't broke, why fix it?

Probable XIs

Italy (433) - Donnarumma; Di Lorenzo, Bonucci, Acerbi, Spinazzola; Locatelli, Jorginho, Verratti; Bernardeschi, Belotti, Insigne

Wales (4231) - Ward; Roberts, Mepham, Rodon, Davies; Allen, Morrell; Bale, Ramsey, James; Moore

Key Battle: Manuel Locatelli vs Aaron Ramsey

Italy vs Wales: Euro 2020 team news and prediction

Manuel Locatelli was a man in demand prior to Euro 2020, but his brace against Switzerland will have only increased that list of potential suitors. 2.5 tackles per 90 ranked highly in Serie A in 2020/21, which has also seen those in Italy take a liking to the 23-year-old, one of whom is powerhouse Juventus.

That would mean a potential exit from Turin for Aaron Ramsey. The Welshman hasn't quite hit the heights expected of him following his arrival from Arsenal in 2019 and a return to England has been mooted. The 30-year-old still has his Premier League admirers, so Juventus wouldn't be short of interested parties should they seek to replace Ramsey with Locatelli.

Score Prediction: Italy 2-0 Wales
