Liverpool duo among four club pairings in Premier League team of the month

The first Premier League team of the month since the action resumed in June sees Premier League champions Liverpool represented. Champions League chasing duo Manchester United and Wolves also boast two players each as we run through the WhoScored.com best XI for last month...

Goalkeeper

Wolves had made a flying return to Premier League action, earning wins over West Ham, Bournemouth and Midlands rivals Aston Villa, keeping a clean sheet in all three victories. As such, Rui Patricio is the first of two Wolves representatives in the Premier League team of the month as he earned a WhoScored rating of 7.01 in June to feature between the sticks.

Defenders

It's an all-Everton centre-back partnership in the Premier League team of the month. Michael Keane recently spoke of his good relationship with Mason Holgate, both on and off the pitch, and it's the pair who feature at the heart of the defence here.

The duo earned the WhoScored man of the match award in Everton's two league games in June - Holgate in the 0-0 draw with Liverpool and Keane in the 1-0 win at Norwich - with Keane (8.12) edging out Holgate (7.71) as the best rated centre-back in this team.

At right-back, Trent Alexander-Arnold makes the cut with a WhoScored rating of 7.54. The Liverpool ace played his part as the Reds secured back-to-back clean sheets against Everton and Crystal Palace, while the England international netted a superb free-kick in the 4-0 win over the latter.

Luke Shaw ensures it isn't a Merseyside clean sweep in defence as his performances from left-back for Manchester United yielded a WhoScored rating of 7.35. The first United representative put in a series of notable shifts from left-back as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's side picked up seven points from an available nine in meetings with Tottenham, Sheffield United and Brighton.

Midfielders

Alexander-Arnold isn't the only Liverpool representative to feature in this XI, with Fabinho (8.37) nailing down a midfield spot. The Brazilian put in a man of the match display in the Reds' 4-0 win over Crystal Palace after a solid midfield showing in the Merseyside Derby. Nine tackles and four interceptions was a commendable return for Fabinho, contributing towards his inclusion.

Partnering Fabinho in the middle of the park is Manchester United sensation Bruno Fernandes. The Portugal international has been a revelation following his January arrival from Sporting and he picked up where he left off following lockdown, scoring three goals in three league outings to help him to a spot in the Premier League team of the month with a WhoScored rating of 8.07.

Matt Ritchie occupies the right wing spot in this team on the back of commendable performances in meetings with Sheffield United and Aston Villa, earning the man of the match award in the 3-0 win over the former. Scoring one and assisting another helped Ritchie to a June average WhoScored rating of 8.10.

On the opposite flank, Phil Foden did enough in his two league appearances to land a WhoScored rating of 8.34. No player scored more goals than Foden (3) in the Premier League in June, a month that included his best rated league performance in a City shirt in their 5-0 win over Burnley to round off the midfield.

Forwards

Raul Jimenez is the second Wolves player to star in this side as the Mexican scored two goals from this three appearances, winning the WhoScored man of the match gong from their 2-0 win at West Ham upon the resumption of league duties. Jimenez is a man in demand this summer and with a WhoScored rating of 7.55 in June enough to make the best XI, it's easy to see why.

Saving the best until last, Danny Ings is the WhoScored Premier League player of the month for June having garnered a WhoScored rating of 8.58. The Southampton star had a direct hand in more goals (4 - 3 goals, 1 assist) than any other Premier League player last month, hitting the back of the net with all three shots on target, earning the star man gongs in wins at Norwich and Watford to secure the individual award and his spot in this side.
